And it has come to an end....

Well this class is almost over and all I can think is how much I wish this was a full semester long class. I have learned so much from the activities, assignments, and most of all listening to all the personal experiences everyone has shared. This class was awesome and I truly enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you so much to everyone who shared there personal experiences...you have made me a stronger person just by allowing me to read about conflicts you have overcome or been faced with. Good luck to everyone and thank you so much Professor!!

Project Completed

So Thursday evening my group got together through Ilinc to go over our final project. It just so happened that Ilinc was acting up so we decided to has Teresa email us the final project and we would make comments through email also if anything needed to be fixed. Friday everyone in the group emailed comments as to what they thought and we were all very pleased. That afternoon our project was submitted. I think my group was awesome! I had a great time working with the ladies and we all worked together very well. Thanks group and best of luck to everyone in the future!

Group Project-Week 3

This week we worked as a group to decide that we wanted our final presentation to be in the power point format. We met tonight on Ilinc to discuss every ones' role in the presentation. I think we have a very productive group that is full of great ideas! We are going to communicate throughout the rest of the week the different scenarios we want to use, and then work together to finalize our power point. These girls are awesome! We should have a great project once it is all put together. We are meeting next week again to go over the final outcome and to discuss any last touches that may need to be added.

Phone Conversation Week 3

For the week 3 phone assignment I partnered up with Teresa. We called each other Wednesday evening to go over the assignment. For our scenario we had Teresa act as the employee and I was her boss. The situation we used related directly to a situation that Teresa had dealt with at her work not to long ago. She had been hired on as a consultant for a school district and worked as a consultant for a while before deciding she wanted to go to her boss about being hired on as an employee. Being promoted from a consultant to an employee of the school district meant she would be contracted in the union, receive benefits, security of the union, and a pay raise. Teresa knew that she needed to be hired on because she was performing the same tasks and duties as other people in the union and she deserved the great benefits that the union would offer her. Because of her ambitious and outgoing demeanor, not to mention all her hard work, her boss at the school district and I (being her boss for the assignment) decided that hiring her on to the school district was the right decision.
Teresa and I had a great conversation and we were able to discuss all different situations possible. Thanks Teresa for being a great partner!

Conflict in the workplace

I really enjoyed reading chapter 8 in the text which was titled, "Options and choice for conflict resolution in the workplace." I am currently working for a company that has dealt with many conflicts in the past year. I work for a new home building company in Northern California, and with the industry the way it is my company has had to do a lot of layoffs within the company. Hearing the different discussions dealing with our goals and losses as a company has made me really think of the different conflicts also involved. I work with my emotions even though I should probably learn not to, and with that I have a hard time watching people being laid off that have families or children. It makes me wonder the types of relationships they have in their life also...I guess this is a little off subject but I just felt like sharing.

Group Project

Hello all, This week my group decided to meet via Ilinc on Thursday night. We all logged on and started chatting at 7:00pm Thursday to discuss what our plans were for the group project/final. It was nice to finally meet and talk to my group through Ilinc instead of just email. We all had picked which character we were going to take on earlier that week so we decided we would spend out time thinking out a scenario. We came up with some great ideas and I think we will be a very productive team. We then decided to partner off throughout the rest of the weekend and week through email until we meet again next week in Ilinc.

Week 2 Phone Conversation

So for week 2 I had my phone conversation with Bryce. We had spoke a couple times through email this week about our assignment and decided that tonight was a great night to have our conversation. Bryce decided to be the employee who witnesses his direct supervisor, new co-worker, and also friend/co-worker stealing. I was Bryce's HR manager for the company. Bryce was put in a tough spot because he wasn't sure if the right thing was to go to HR, or to confront the employees, or to say or do nothing at all. He was fearful that his supervisor would treat him differently and didn't know if HR would even believe him. He also wasn't very comfortable turning in his friend. In the end, Bryce decided to come to the HR manager (me) and inform me of the situation going on. I made sure that Bryce knew he had made the right decision by coming to me and that I would keep his name confidential unless the situation got out of hand. I explained to him what a positive decision he had made, and that I would investigate the situation more. He was aware at the end that there was nothing for him to worry about and that the situation would be taken care of.
The phone conversation with Bryce went very well. He was very informative, and we got through the assignment with ease. Thanks Bryce!

Phone Conversation Assignment

This week I have met some really awesome people through email that have helped me tremendously! I think the main reason I made it through making and setting up my blog was because everyone in class was so supportive. It is really a great form of communication and I am excited to browse more peoples' blogs to learn more about them. As for the phone conversation, I kind of had to improvise.
I have had a super busy week. Between working and trying to move I have barely had time to breath it seems. Because of this I have had a hard time trying to find time to email someone regarding the phone call conversation assignment and partnering up. I decided that since my schedule had been so off I would call an employee and have a conversation with them regarding their life and their different conflict styles and theories.
I decided to ask a girl that started Thursday at my company if I could call her to get to know her better and to learn a little more about her...thankfully she said yes and that she was looking forward to it.
The conversation went very well! I had a great time getting to know her and learning about her personal values and morals. It is really exciting and interesting for me to learn about other peoples' way of thinking and also to hear about the way they deal with different situations. She told me she was having conflicts with her daughters father who she was no longer together with. They had been fighting over the daughter's rights and who gets to spend time with her and when, and basically for custody. She was pretty upset about the whole situation, and I felt for her. I told her about different conflicts I had been dealing with at work and with my family and she not only understood but also offered her ideas.
I really enjoyed being able to talk to a stranger and to feel so close and alike. We both are on different pages in our lives but we still had a lot in common, and our personal thoughts were similar. Hearing different people explain things they have been through really inspires me and motivates me to feel like I can make it through anything!
Even though I wasn't able to contact another student in this course, I am still glad I had the opportunity to contact a new person in my life and to hear more about the conflicts in their life.

So, as I am getting more and more familiar with the whole world of blogging I am realizing what a cool experience it really is! I still need to spend a little more time with it so I can hopefully learn how to post pictures and things but so far I really think it is a great form of communication. I hope everyone else is having fun with it too. Thanks to everyone who assisted me in this new experience!
